Wise Women

How do we define ‘wise women’?

Not in the conventional sense of ‘are you sure that’s wise, dear?’

In fact quite the opposite.  For example, a little while ago I watched a television docudrama about Mo Mowlem.  She’d be on my personal list of wise women, not because she was always right, but because she was courageous and had the courage of her convictions.  She took risks for what she believed in.  She stuck her neck out and was driven by a basic humanity.

Wise Women are not necessarily clever either.

Wise Women are not only wise, they are also women – human, flawed.  They are not goddesses.

For me that makes them all the more attractive: we can all aspire to being a wise woman.  We all have that potential and we don’t have to be one 24/7 to ‘qualify’.

We just need to give our wise woman space, a chance to emerge.

That means giving her time staring into space, walking in the woods or the park, watching the sea or the flames in the fire, or whatever it is that tunes you in to that inner part of you.

Wise Woman have balance – balance between an inner reflective life and a practical outgoing life.

Think about:

Who are the Wise Women in your life and what can you learn from them?

What can you do to nurture your wise woman, even if it’s only for ten minutes a day?
